Step onto the battlefield and train like a warrior with Misfits of Mayhem, an immersive Viking combat experience where festival guests become part of the action.
Based in North Carolina, the Misfits of Mayhem are a traveling troupe of performers, educators, reenactors, and stage combat specialists who bring history and fantasy together through hands-on battle training and interactive games. Their Battle School transforms curious spectators into shield-bearing warriors ready to face the chaos of the battlefield.
Participants are equipped with safe foam weapons and shields and guided through combat techniques, battlefield formations, and strategy by experienced Viking instructors. Whether you’re learning to hold the line in a shield wall or charging across the field in team combat, every experience is designed to be fun, engaging, and accessible to all skill levels.
Shield Wall Experience
The most popular class in the Battle School. Participants learn real Viking battlefield formations and tactics before putting their skills to the test in a friendly battle against fellow warriors and the Viking instructors.
Bear Pit Tournament
A bracket-style gladiator tournament where participants select their weapon and compete in controlled combat challenges.
Battlefield Games
Guests can join team-based strategy games including:
- Capture the Flag
- Juggerball
- Tug of War
Interactive Training Activities
Duel a Valkyrie: One-on-one combat training with Viking instructors
Strike-a-Viking: Try your aim by throwing foam axes at moving Viking targets
